Food for the Holidays part2

So, back in the Philippines we always have my mom's homemade ham during Christmas dinner. Its a whole or if money is tight just half of pork leg marinated with vinegar, soy sauce, lots of garlic, whole black pepper, bay leaves, pineapple juice, sugar if pineapple juice is unsweetened and pineapple slices. Yummm. that would be the food star of the night. It is cooked slowly for at least 4 hours until it is so tender. I love how my mother do it with the pineapple slices on top of the meat
and like some syrup from the marinade as base.
I am gonna let you see a picture of it on the next blog because now i have to see how to include picture in here, lol. Hey, bear with me.. my first blog, u know. ;-)

Fruitcake for the holidays?

Many years have gone when we used to have fruitcake always every Christmas. My aunt would bring it home and divide each one of cakes for each family since we live in one are together. I used to love it. The taste and smell of it. the dried fruits especially the raisins in it and the smell and taste of wine makes me want to eat more and feel much "better" after, lol.
How long has it been when i had fruitcake on Christmas time? hmmm, more than 10 years? Since my aunt came to the US, nobody really in the family already care to bring fruitcake every Christmas. When i came here in the US, i also found out that Americans dont really like fruitcakes during the holidays. Is it an insult here if you come to visit and bring fruitcake instead of something else?? I am not for sure about that but that's what i heard about.
I have loved fruitcake. I miss having it during Christmas time. Too bad i dont know how to make
one for myself. Maybe i have to google it and make it this year. Hmm, what do u think?
